MP Rasheed Calls for MDP Leadership Change

MP Ibrahim Rasheed (Bonda), representing Central Maafanu, asserts that the country's political landscape cannot progress without a change in leadership within the main opposition party, MDP.

During the inaugural session of the 20th Parliament following last Sunday's election, MP Rasheed highlighted that the public's decision to grant the ruling PNC a supermajority was influenced by various factors, including corruption scandals linked to the former MDP government.

Formerly affiliated with MDP but now representing the Democrats in parliament, MP Rasheed criticized the previous government for hindering parliamentary proceedings aimed at holding the 18th Parliament members accountable and for failing to achieve justice for the attempted assassination of former President Mohamed Nasheed.

MP Rasheed emphasized the necessity for MDP's leadership to step down to facilitate political progress. He characterized the party's current operations as resembling that of a gang and attributed their defeat in the parliamentary election to last-minute discussions of impeaching President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

Despite his advocacy for change within MDP's leadership, MP Rasheed himself lost his seat in the 20th Parliament to PNC candidate Asma Rasheed during Sunday's election.
